Winter is not over yet and it seems that a wave of colds is once again sweeping through the country. We are noticing this in the large number of prescriptions that are being written for them.
Our specialist, pharmacist Gabriela Burkhard, has put together a winter package of West-East tinctures based on her practical experience:
Some immune systems are overtaxed by changes in temperature and cool winds.
Prevention is preferably done in autumn with IMMUN 1 - Alant comp.
"ALANT is of a warm and dry nature and has useful powers in itself" - Hildegard von Bingen, Physica Cap. 1-95
Inula helenium, elecampane, is the emperor's herb in the mother tincture mixture IMMUN 1. Its metabolism-stimulating, warming, simultaneously drying and slightly dispersing effect is ideal for stimulating the immune system. It is accompanied by extracts of taiga root, thyme, cinnamon twigs, onion and liquorice.
If the cold has already penetrated through the pores, it manifests itself with shivering without sweating, some aching limbs, few headaches, scratchy throat, runny nose, no fever. In this situation we recommend ENT 1 - Cinnamon Twig comp.
"Cinnamon as a spice of the sun warms the spirit of life"
Cinnamomum cassia ex ramulus - cinnamon twig, stands here as an emperor's herb, which drives away cold and wind. The main companion is white peony, which helps to relax the limbs. Other companions are ginger root, lime blossom, onion, propolis and liquorice.
The first signs are already apparent with difficulty swallowing, sore throat, possibly also fever above 38°C, headache, blocked nasal discharge, cough and yellow sputum. We recommend ENT 2 - Indigo comp.
"The 3 great anti-inflammatories with antibiotic and immunostimulant effect"
Baptisia tinctoria - wild indigo, Lonicera caprifolia - fragrant honeysuckle and Echinacea angustifolia - narrow-leaved coneflower appear together here as emperor's herbs. They have been shown to have antimicrobial and immunostimulant effects. They are accompanied by the harmonising and mucus-transforming effects of lime blossom, ribwort plantain, nasturtium and yarrow.
Cough with preceding or existing fever, white-yellow mucus, heat-induced headache, incipient bronchitis.
"Linden alleviates the fever and relieves the urge to cough"
Tilia europaea - European winter or summer lime tree and Primula veris - spring primrose are able to relieve heat in the lungs and coughs and reduce phlegm, supported by Lonicera caprifolia - honeysuckle. Chrysanthemum clears heat in the head and behind the eyes. The formula is rounded off by the calming effect of the spagyric essence of the tree of life - Thuja occidenatlis and the harmonising effect of Glycyrrhiza glabra - liquorice.
Dry cough, without fever, little phlegm, shortness of breath, weakness and thirst.
"The velvety leaves, the lovely shape of the blossom and the sweet flavour of the marshmallow are reminiscent of Venus - "
Marshmallow - Althaea officinalis - moisturises the mucous membranes with its valuable mucilage and roots, tonifies the depleted yin and is supported by the juice-supporting and tonifying effect of ginseng. Field thyme has an anti-inflammatory effect and, together with the spagyric essence of belladonna, counteracts spasmodic coughs and makes breathing easier. Tangerine peel transforms and eliminates phlegm. Liquorice moisturises and harmonises dryness.
Much clear to white mucus shows coldness in the background. Dampness and weakness of the centre overload the respiratory tract.
"Thyme, onion and myrtle - the big 3 for a lot of cold mucus in the airways"
Thyme warms, has an antimicrobial effect and reaches the airways well. The emperor's herb is supported by the mucus-breaking onion extract, the transformative power of wax myrtle and mandarin peel, as well as the centre-strengthening and drying effect of angelica root and the pungent, draining nasturtium, which is suited to the humid climate. Liquorice tones and harmonises.
Stagnant, yellow-green mucus in sinuses or bronchial tubes with signs of heat, possibly preceded by fever, heavy head, pressure in the forehead, accompanied by difficult defecation.
"The large burdock scrapes mucus from the upper warmer"
Gentian - Gentiana lutea - drains the phlegm with its strong bitter power, the great burdock shows a strong connection to the metal element and the lymph vessels, dissolves phlegm and accumulations, expectorates and clears heat toxins. Elder gently opens the surface and eliminates heat, hyssop balances the cooling effect of the emperor's herbs, primula and mullein soften the irritation and also dissolve phlegm, yarrow moves, strengthens the blood and harmonises.
Sluggish healing of a viral or bacterial infection of the respiratory tract, sluggish digestion, poor appetite, tiredness and heaviness in the head.
"Aniseed, the connecting herb between the lungs and digestive organs"
The aromatic power of the essential oils of aniseed - Pimpinella anisum, comparable to the effect of Ban Xia - Pinellia ternata, the three-celled pinellia, moves residual mucus in the bronchial tubes and warms the digestive organs. Yarrow brings movement to the centre together with skullcap. Mandarin peel transforms and drains phlegm, elecampane strengthens the Qi and protects the Yin, the pungent character of ginger disperses and harmonises the formula together with liquorice.
